A discount code made the add-on free: how to fix it
Some options apps add the fee as a separate product in the cart. Shopify discounts treat that add-on like any other product:
- An Amount off order discount applies to the whole order, add-on lines included. It has no setting to leave products out.
- An Amount off products discount applies to the collections or products you choose. If one of those collections also contains your add-on products, the add-on gets the discount too.
A 100% discount brings the add-on fee to 0, and other discounts reduce it. We reproduced this on a test store: a 100% product discount on an add-on product left the add-on line at $0.
Fix
- In Discounts, open the code (or Create discount › Amount off products for a new one). Under Discount value, set Applies to to Specific collections or Specific products, and choose only your main products.
- If your options app keeps add-ons in their own collection, make sure that collection isn't selected. Check automated collections too: their conditions can include add-on products.
- If you need a discount on the whole order, keep in mind that it will also discount the add-ons.
- Test: apply the code to a product with a paid option and check the add-on line at checkout.
